I was watching a famous talk show this evening. One of the guests was a well known fat loss expert. I am all for people learning how to lose weight sensibly and in a healthy manner. I am aware that in order to lose weight there will have to be a reduction in carbohydrates that are ingested. Basically more protein then carbs. What got me was the fact that they were alright with a person who is morbidly obese (or anyone else for that matter) eating eggs with cheese, bacon, french toast, and kool aid for breakfast. When I heard that the first thing that came to my mind and out of my mouth was (What the FatherUncleCousinKin). They said it was OK to eat basically fast foods for lunch and dinner, and cupcakes for snacks. What got me was the only live healthy food featured was a salad included for dinner. That made me pay attention to how we are lost as a people and as a nation. Caught up in eating garbage and thinking it is really going to make us healthy. The goal is not just to lose weight, but to be healthy. He didn't even push the 5 vegetables and fruits that are recommended and water. Seeing his concept promoted really bothered me. The show was geared towards an African-American audience. As an African-American woman I know the dilemma that is killing persons within the African Diaspora and it is all connected to food consumption. Obesity, asthma, hypertension, cancer, cardiac conditions etc. it is all based upon food consumption. What I enjoyed about the show was that the guest who came out after him, was asked what she does to stay in shape and she said eat raw foods and jog. Now that made sense, and since she is not overweight or looking unhealthy, I would say her suggestion was a better common sense choice to follow.
Healing Blessings,
Tonya
